About Lemon Grove

The City of Lemon Grove is an intimate community of about 26,000 residents in southeast San Diego County. As a small municipality nested within an expansive metropolis, Lemon Grove faces the unique challenge of preserving its unique history and small town charm amidst a largely urban landscape. The city’s small town attributes are not only attractive to residents and visitors, but they also allow for more feasible implementation of rapid and widespread sustainable practices. The City of Lemon Grove continues to gain momentum as a model of sustainability as it seeks innovate ways to address both community and global needs.

Summary Report for the 2016-17 Partnership


The City of Lemon Grove received the Outstanding Community Partner Award at the 2018 Educational Partnerships for Innovation in Communities (EPIC) Network Conference for being a model partner city with the Sage Project. The EPIC Network awards only one such award each year. The City is featured as one of the case stories on the EPIC-N's website.

The City also won an EAGLE Award from the CSAC Excess Insurance Authority for their partnership with Sage.

About National City

National City is a highly urban community of about 60,000 residents in south San Diego County. It is the second oldest city in the county and boasts a rich history, a diverse community, and is known as one of the most walkable cities in San Diego County. Located just south of downtown San Diego and just north of the US-Mexico border, the city is flanked by freeways and is home to large-scale industries. National City is a mid-size city that faces big city challenges, and, like many municipalities, the city is challenged to meet community needs and new demands of sustainability.
